‘SADE mixtape ‘Kiss of Life’ fr. Dj Mars/Doc/Finesse

Late saturday night I was working on some rebranding ideas for a client. I was listening to my “Recently Added” folder in iTunes, which I normally do, and this mixtape came on that was perfectly chill, perfectly awsm, and perfectly inspirational.  For the time and work.

A Session of just material from Sade.
How could you go wrong. The Sade mixtape ‘Kiss of Life’ fr. Dj Mars/Doc/Finesse .

Retro Ads that never made it to print

One of my clients is the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU) and they are the managing body of the  campus student bar “The Grawood”. They ask me to come up with a new concept for an ad campaign. Something trendy, witty, smart, sexy w/o crossing any lines. That is more or less what I was told. So here I am thinking ok thats everything AND the kitchen sink but doing so w/o pissing to many people off.

So I am personally a fan of this retro 50’s/60’s trend in print right now. I came up with 3 concept ads for them to to look at. I was planning on shooting my own photos for this and treating them to look like it was 1962. In the end it was expressed that these were boring and they didn’t use them. So I thought I’d share them here.

Stunning film > censorship

There has been a fair bit of on-line chatter over the new Massive Attack video. I can see why. It is beautifully edited and composed with the music.

Sadly this is not the main focus of attention. It is an edited collage of an interview with a woman who at one point in her life was a porn star with footage of her film work. Yes some of it gets graphic. I feel that Massive Attack is doing it more for the art. They don’t really need the money that video air play gets, yet we all know that internet viral marketing gets you farther. I’d say they know exactly what they are doing.

Sex and nudity, but get over it.

A Fresh coat of paint

I have taken a couple months to spend time redeveloping my orientation in my art and design. Work hard on some projects that meant a lot to me. Dropped a few that I felt I have grown past. Revisiting some old mediums and found new ones.

As I begin to post once again on the daily I imagine I will come to express more.

The Medusa Series

If you have been reading my blog for a while you would know that I find Jellyfish to be so beautiful and graceful. I came across this series recently and was very inspired. Italian photographer Guido Mocafico has created a series that he calls The Medusa Series. Which is a discovery of different species of jellyfish. He makes each shot completely surreal and gives each creature a world full of complexity and life. Please take your time to check out his site, it is a sunday after all.

Louie V fall/winter sneaker drop

Louis Vuitton has released the new Sunlight Sneaker as part of their fall/winter 09 collection. I like the dark grey tones in mixed patchwork with the contrast of the bright colour stitching, matching the laces, mesh tongue and lining. Fresh. Classic while being new.

Amazing redesign of a space

From a public school gym to a live-in studio space.

“This amazing before & after comes from RISD professor wendy seller. along with seven other artists, wendy converted an old elementary school into beautiful live/work studios called “the claflin school studios” in newtonville, mass.”

I think this so wonderful in its design and functionality. And I can’t wrap my head around the fact that it took her 6 hers to do.
